Peter leaves behind his beloved wife of 54 years, Rosemary, with whom he shared a lifetime of memories since they met in March 1969 and married in October 1970. Cherished father to his daughter, Robyn, he will also be deeply missed by his nephew Shawn (Joanne), and great-niece Hailey.
Peter will forever remain in the hearts of his cousins, who were more like siblings—Craig (Beryl) Collingwood, Sharon (Gord) Johnston, and Karen Collingwood, and their families. He is predeceased by his parents, Herbert and Mildred Cadiou; his brother, Robert; and his close cousins, Gary Collingwood and Melissa Wildfong.
Born on June 30, 1943, in Galt, Ontario, Peter built a life defined by dedication, friendship, and a passion for motorsports. He spent several years working at Savage Shoe in Preston before joining Hammond Manufacturing, where he worked for 29 years until his retirement.
Peter’s love for racing began in his early 20s, and became good friends with several super modified teams. Because of those friendships, he was offered an announcer position at Delaware Speedway, which led into him becoming the head of timing and scoring. A founding member of CASCAR, he took his talents to a new racing series that had him traveling across Canada, continuing to nurture his enthusiasm for the sport and remained on the circuit when NASCAR purchased the series. You could always find him in front of the field, in the most coveted job in motorsports - driving the pace car.
A man of many interests, Peter had an extensive record collection and would spend time DJing weddings and parties during the late 60s and 70s. He enjoyed road trips throughout Canada and the US, which also included a few trips to the several Formula One Grand Prixs. He could often be found on a Sunday morning drinking his coffee during the F1 race. Lifelong friendships were important to Peter, and he remained close to his Mill Creek School classmates, gathering twice a year with the same group of friends he’d known since kindergarten. In all of his interests, he made several great friends that will miss his stories, trivia and history lessons.
Cremation has taken place. A celebration of Peter’s life will be held at a later date.
