It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Harold “Hal” Roy Tilley, beloved husband of 47 years to Sandy. Hal will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by his family and all who knew him.
Hal leaves behind his cherished family: Paul Cross (Lisa-May Taylor), Brenda Parker, Dave Cross (Stacey Duby), Janis (Tom) Dunning, and his grandchildren Andrew Cross; Beth (Barry) Edworthy; Amy (Jon) Lauzon; Shaughnessy (Dave) Teixeira; Brittany (Bryan) Little; Hollie (Fraser); and Chalene (Alex). He was a proud great-grandfather to Zander, Dresden, Caleigh, Blake-Lynn, Parker, Felix, Mylie, Eva, Bentley, Melody, Sean, Clare, Andrew, and Brenden, all of whom will miss their great-grandpa dearly.
He is survived by his sister Carol Ann (Robert) MacLeod, sister-in-law Carol Tilley, brother-in-law Paul Henderson (Heather), and sister-in-law Bev, along with many nieces and nephews.
Hal was predeceased by his parents Edward and Grace Tilley, his brother Ed, and his sister-in-law Karen-Lynne Henderson.
Born in St. John’s, Newfoundland, Hal moved to Cambridge (Galt) at the age of 12 and remained a proud resident ever since. He enjoyed a fulfilling career at Inter-Royal and later spent 28 years at Galt Glass, where he became known as the “friendly voice” of the business.
Beyond his career, Hal had a passion for music and spent more than 50 years as a disc jockey, known to many as “Rockin’ Roy.” He was a devoted member of Cedar Hill United Church and a life member of the Cambridge West Optimist Club.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the compassionate and dedicated staff at Hilltop Manor, where Hal resided for over five years. The Preston Wing staff are truly angels on earth. A special mention goes to Sharon T., Aimee J., Daria, and their teams for their exceptional care and kindness.
Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at Cedar Hill United Church, 241 Cedar Street, Cambridge, on Saturday, January 31st at 2:00 p.m., with a reception to follow.
