Joan passed away peacefully at Highview Residence at the age of 96. She was predeceased by her husband Bruce in 2006, her brother Victor (Ann 2021) in 2007 and her loving daughters Connie Sacco (Sam 2018) in 2020 and Patricia Evans (Tom) in 1982. She sadly leaves behind her only son Grant Eagle (Sharon). She is also survived by her sister Connie Ainsworth and stepsister Wilma Kroll (Gerhard 2023). She also leaves 5 grandchildren Teresa Burch (Rich), Todd Evans, Tammy Evans (Tina), Leanne Lepine and Melanie Johnson, 7 great grandchildren Branden, Ashley, Hilary, Sophie, Aubrey, Braydon and Kolby and one great great grandchild Rhodes.
Joan was devoted to raising her three children after which she held several office jobs. She enjoyed summers at the family cottage in Red Bay and often wintered in Florida. She was a competitive and sought after bridge partner, an avid scrabble player, drawn to challenging puzzles, as well as being a superb sewer and crocheter! She enjoyed helping others, whether it be making monetary donations to a variety of charities, volunteering her time or making someone smile or laugh. She was a fabulous cook and enjoyed hosting regular large family gatherings. She was happiest when the family was all together.
Joan's family are thankful to the staff at both Chartwell Queens Square and Highview Residence for going above and beyond with her care in recent years. She was a strong and feisty woman which all of her family and caretakers can attest to. You always knew where you stood with Joan. She also had a great sense of humour. All of these traits served her well and awarded her with such a long life. Joan is forever thankful for the care provided by her granddaughter Teresa, the decadent treats and frequent visits from her granddaughter Melanie and really looked forward to her visits with her son Grant and weekly FaceTime calls when he could not be with her.
At Joan’s request cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation or service. Joan was a strong supporter of the Canadian Cancer Society due to the grief she felt losing her two daughters to cancer. She would greatly appreciate donations to this charity.
