John Weston

John passed away peacefully at Hospice Wellington, Guelph on Tuesday, Sept. 19, 2017 at 3:00 p.m. Survived by his loving wife Elizabeth (Betty), cherished daughter Teresa, son-in-law Andy Munro and grandson, Bruce, as well as many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents, Antony and Michelina, sisters Victoria Chornaby, Marie Blair, Helen McCullough, Eleanor Terentiak, Ann Dorosh and Pauline Lipowski, brothers Michael and Frank Weston and several nieces and nephews.John proudly enlisted and served with the Highland Light Infantry Regiment (Galt, ON), in support of Canada’s WWII efforts and participated in the liberation of Holland. He remained an active member of the Regimental Association in the years thereafter. John was a lifelong member of St. Clement’s Parish Church; Preston. John’s interests included skilled carpentry, woodworking, music, history and gardening. In his earlier years, he enjoyed fishing and hunting; he was a member of The Wilmot Rod and Gun Club. John retired in the mid-eighties, after approximately two decades of dedicated service at Eastern Steel Canada. The family wishes to express our deepest gratitude to the staff at Guelph General Hospital Emergency Department and 4E Medical Ward, along with the caring staff and volunteers at Hospice Wellington for the support provided to ensure John’s comfort and well-being during his final hours. We are humbled by the tremendous care and compassion shown to us all. We thank you for making our last memory of John one of dignity and grace. Visitation will take place at the T. Little Funeral Home & Cremation Centre, 223 Main Street, Cambridge, Ontario (519-623-1290) on Friday, September 22 from 3 – 9 p.m. Funeral Mass will take place at St. Clements Church, 745 Duke Street, Cambridge on Saturday, September 23 at 11 a.m., followed by a sit-down meal in the reception hall. As expressions of sympathy, memorial donations may be made to St. Clement’s Parish Church, The Alzheimer’s Society or a charity of one's choice.
