Beloved father of Paul Williamson (Marissa) and Annemarie Bain (Andrew) both of Cambridge. Dear Grandpa/Papa of Matthew Williamson of Cambridge, Sarah Williamson (Dmitrie) of Waterloo, Michael Williamson (Sara) of Brantford, Grace Bain (William) of Cambridge, Julianna Mason of Kitchener and Kate Bain (James) of Sudbury. He will be lovingly remembered by his great-granddaughter Scarlett Mason.
Born in Glasgow Scotland, John came to Canada with his parents in 1951 and settled in Toronto. He began at the Gage Institute taking chest x-rays in 1954 and stayed on as the Ministry of Health acquired them. He was transferred into the Ministry of Labour in the late 70’s, analyzing collective agreements for the Minister of Labour. At that time John also became the President of his local union with OPSEU.
After John and Theresa married, they moved to Mississauga, where they enjoyed numerous hobbies and organizations within the community with their growing family. John joined the Clarkson Community Association, a small community within Mississauga, where he sat on the board and planned community events. He had a voice and a face for television and broadcast local hockey games on channel 10, Mississauga’s home town station. He spent time planning parties, weddings, and events. Eventually becoming a very successful Disc Jockey. He became an avid Photographer, and learned to develop his own photos. John loved sailing and spent quite a few years at the Port Credit Yacht Club where he moored his Sailboat.
John moved to Cambridge in 2007 to be closer to his family and enjoyed the camaraderie of the Johnson Centre Aqua – fitness family.
Friends and family will be received at Coutts Funeral Home, 96 St. Andrews Street, Cambridge (519-621-1650) on Tuesday, February 7th, 2023 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A Funeral Service will be held at Coutts Funeral Home, on Wednesday, February 8, 2023 at 9:30 a.m. A small reception will follow with John’s burial to take place at Springcreek Cemetery, Mississauga.
As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Innisfree House, Kitchener would be appreciated by the family.
