It is with shattered hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Nathan Reid Jansen, who left us far too soon on Monday, May 19, 2025, at London Children’s Hospital, with his devoted parents by his side. Nathan was just 16 years old - a bright light in the lives of all who knew and loved him.
Precious and deeply loved son of Terri-Lynn and Timothy Jansen, Nathan was a source of boundless joy, wonder, and love. He brought colour, laughter, and rhythm to every space he entered. His loving spirit will be forever cherished by his grandparents Ronald and Patricia Jansen, his aunts and uncles Dwayne (Sepideh) Gallagher and their children Darian and Niven and Heather (Daniel) Leskovec and their children Cameron and Ruby, as well as many extended family members and dear friends.
Nathan is now reunited in peace with his grandparents Julie and Terry Gallagher and his uncle Shawn Gallagher, whose love will continue to cradle him beyond this life.
Though Nathan faced many challenges, including autism and epilepsy, he embraced life with a joyful spirit and a heart full of wonder. He was sensitive and deeply compassionate, with a way of connecting to the world that was entirely his own. He had a special love for Doritos, an endless passion for horses, and loved music, especially when it meant heading out for a car ride on a beautiful day. That was one of the things he enjoyed most, cruising around while bouncing to his favourite tunes.
Nathan was a vibrant and energetic soul who found joy in movement and adventure. He had many passions; soccer, swimming, horseback riding and was happiest when he was outdoors, exploring, playing, and soaking in the world around him. He never wanted to miss a moment. From the park to the water, from his scooter rides to simply being outside in the sunshine, Nathan lived with a beautiful intensity. He was always up for something new, always curious, and always moving. And wherever he went, he carried with him his beloved set of keys, a small but constant comfort that never left his hands.
Relatives and friends will be received on Saturday, May 31, 2025 from 2-3 p.m. at Coutts Funeral Home, 96 St. Andrews Street, Cambridge. A Funeral Service will follow at 3 p.m. from the funeral home chapel.
As expressions of sympathy, donations in Nathan’s memory may be made to Ronald McDonald House, Autism Ontario, or ChildCan.
The family extends their heartfelt thanks to the incredible staff at Stewart Avenue School, especially his EA’s Crissy, Hope, and Angie, for their unwavering care and support. Deepest gratitude as well to the compassionate nurses and staff at London Children’s Hospital, whose kindness and support during the past few months meant the world. A very special thank you to our friend and guardian angel Diana, your love, advocacy and support has meant more than words will ever be able to express.
