With heavy hearts, we share the peaceful passing of Robert “Bob” George Gardner on Monday, May 27, 2025, at Cambridge Memorial Hospital. He is now reunited with his beloved son, Bob, whose memory he carried with him every day.
Bob was a dear brother to Bernice (Paul) Cobb, and a loving uncle to Kevin (Natasha) and their children; Emma and Hayden, Paul Jr. (Laura) and their children; Jacob, Jared, Rayne and Sadie. He was predeceased by his parents, George and Beatrice Gardner. He will be forever remembered and dearly missed by his extended family and many friends.
Bob was a well-loved figure in his neighbourhood, best known as the devoted dog walker of his beloved Jack Russell Terrier, J.R. While Bob was deeply loved, it was often joked that he was known around town simply as “J.R.’s owner,” as the pair were inseparable and recognized by all. Together, they made their rounds through the neighbourhood daily, stopping to chat with everyone they met. Bob had a special gift for connection and truly enjoyed seeing the neighbours, especially the kids, and catching up on the goings-on from his front porch.
In his younger years, Bob loved boating and camping, and more recently found joy in being part of a close-knit community where friendly faces and kind gestures were a part of daily life.
In keeping with his wishes, cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, June 7, 2025, from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. at Coutts Funeral Home, 96 St. Andrews Street, Cambridge.
A very special thank you to Bob’s neighbours, who treated him like family, driving him to appointments, checking in on him, and offering unwavering support and kindness over the years.
As expressions of sympathy, donations in Bob’s memory may be made to a charity of your choice.
