Bill Barlow's membership in Rotary spanned 4 decades and his passion for service to the community was an inspiration to us all. Bill was someone who was always willing to help and offer a smile and a kind word. He truly emulated our motto, "Service Above Self" and we know that Cambridge is a far better city today for having him as one of it's citizens.

Dear Janice, Tom, Terry, and Dorothy,

I want to extend my most heartfelt condolences to all of you at this time of loss.  Watching the funeral today at your Dad's graveside brought back waves of fond memories.  Bill was such a pillar of both our church community and the broader community.  His core kindness, integrity and decency are among the things that I will never forget about your Dad.  "The best a man can be," as you said today, Tom.  My earliest memories of Bill date from my days as a cub scout.  As you know, together with your Mom (our "Baloo"), and your Aunt Marion (our "Akela"), your Dad was our "Bagheera."  They ran a necessarily tight ship as I recall, but their leadership team allowed all of us the opportunity to have so much fun, and to enjoy camping and fellowship; they exposed us to so many new and exciting experiences.  And Bill was always such a good friend to my Mom and Dad, Ruth and Ken Wright, both of whom loved and respected him deeply.  We can only dare to hope that our generation has produced a few individuals as fine as your father.  His gentle and reassuring presence in the community will be sorely missed by so many.

"Bowtie Bill" was a champion of Galt and Cambridge.  When I first met Bill in the late 90s, it always struck me that an accomplished politician would continue to serve and volunteer his time more than a decade after being elected to his community and party.  Bill's stories of politics and Queen's Park were legendary, and his wisdom helped me when I took my seat on behalf of the people of Cambridge and North Dumfries.  I'm attaching a photo of Bill at an event he held for me at his Haddington home in 2011.  I will always remember his smile, his cheerfulness, and the legacy he left us all.  To Terry, Tom, Janice and Dorothy, my deepest condolences.  May the Lord have mercy on our friend Bill.  Rest in Peace.

I just wanted to pass on my condolences on the passing of Bill.  I met Bill through his son, Tom.  He was a kind and gentle soul.  He loved curling.  He loved his family and community as has been evidenced by his many accomplishments over his lifetime.  I know he will be missed by all of the family and his many friends.

Just wanted to pass on my condolences and deepest sympathies to all of Tom's family.  I served with him in the Ontario Legislature and always found him a wonderful man to work with, one who truly cared about his community and his colleagues.  Rest in peace.

I was saddened to hear of the passing of your father. I know what a prominent figure he was in Cambridge and of his impact on the community, but more importantly, as the patriarch of your family, the tremendous impact he had on your family and all of your friends - Needless to say the Barlow household was more than welcoming, to all.
I only hope that all of your joyous memories of your father, will help to ease your loss and bring smiles and laughter to you.

Along with so many in our community, I mourn the loss of Bill. What a legacy he has left! I was proud to help celebrate his induction into our Cambridge Hall of Fame recently. I was honoured to have him introduce me once as a speaker at Probus Club.  I was proud to follow him, years later, as an MPP for Cambridge.  Bill was an exemplary Public Servant, at the Municipal and Provincial levels of Government.  While at Queen's Park, I located his name alongside all Members of the 32nd and 33rd Parliament for Ontario, carved in marble in the hallways of the Ontario Legislature. In telling him about it, we enjoyed a few moments reminiscing about the times he spent in the Legislature. An eloquent, thoughtful speaker, and a wonderful supporter of all things Cambridge, Bill will be missed by our community, his friends and especially his family. To you, Dorothy and all of your family, as Mayor of Cambridge and on behalf of Council,  I offer my deepest condolences. Cambridge City Hall lowered the flags to half mast in honour of Bill Barlow.

I cherished the friendship of Bill Barlow as a fellow Legislator of his from 1981 to 1987.  He was kind and gentle but very effective in representing the people of Cambridge.  As a former Minister in the  Davis Government,  I always found it very difficult to say no to Bill as he was always very well informed  and fair in his requests.  Most of all I will always be grateful to Bill for hiring Joan Stearns as his executive assistant in 1985 who later became my beautiful and wonderful wife.  Our condolences to his family and many friends.  He served his community and Province with energy and integrity and will be remembered  by many.

Bill was a good friend and a valued colleague.  We were at Queen's Park together and worked on many projects and committees.

Bill was invariably positive and loved life.  I can honestly say I never heard him say a bad thing about anybody.  

We shared many good times - I will truly miss Bill.

My condolences to the Barlow family. 
I had the privilege of working with Bill at his time with Alliance Security.  Bill’s attitude was always upbeat and his genuine smile had a positive effect on everyone he met.  Bill has set a positive example for all of us to follow . Rest In peace Bill .

Proud to have served in the Ontario Legislature with Bowtie Bill--he was a man of great integrity--compassion.-- and generosity.  sincere condolences to family--my prayers and thoughts are  with you-----Mike Harris--Premier  of Ontario-- 1995 --2002.

I (and my husband) got to know Bill through his administrator and executive roles in Scouting.  A genuine, caring, helpful, and supportive gentleman who always had a smile on his face.  He always made you feel like a friend.  He served his community well.  Rest in peace Bill, you have fulfilled your role here on earth.

I had the pleasure of knowing Bill for over 25 years through Rotary and living in Galt .....he never was without that huge smile and always had  something good to say.......the world will miss him....

I had the privilege of being a fellow Rotarian with Bill over a period of 40 years. Many of the clubs fund raising activities were  shared, whether at the annual carnival, selling car draw tickets, rose campaigns and so many more events and the regular weekly meetings. Bill was always "Up", nothing less than a good word and a warm smile; and being a willing volunteer when the club was looking for a representative. Bill lived a life of service in so many endeavors, to the community, the province, through Barlow Trucking,  and for all his years as a great Rotarian. Bill has set an example for all of us to follow and will live on in our hearts forever and a day. Rest in peace good friend.

I was surprised and saddened to receive the news of Bill’s death. I will long remember the slightly crazy days in the Trinity Cub Pack. I will always have fond memories of elections past, both federal and provincial. I carry especially distinct and happy recollections of the victory he won against the NDP incumbent. It was, of course, a pleasure to meet and update with him at Trinity Church. I have a lot of memories, all good, tied up with Bill (and Bernice, of course).

If there is anything that I can do or assist with, letme know. I really am rather decrepit, but still able to perform certain tasks.

Bill was a longtime member of PROBUS, a group of retired gentlemen. Many of us only knew Bill through PROBUS, as the unassuming, warm and friendly person that he was. Only now are many of us aware of the amazing and fulfilling life that he lived. We will miss him greatly, there was only one Bowtie Bill.

When I think of Bill a simple description  of "a Gentleman"  comes to mind.  I Loved it when he answered the home phone and we had a quick catch up.   Talking with Bill always left me smiling!  My deep felt condolences!

My deepest sympathies to Bill's family. I was introduced to Bill by my parents (Dot and Joe Beke) when he ran for provincial parliament. They shared so many great times during those days. I personally remember Bill as a warm and caring man. He was always quick to smile and share a laugh. Bill was an excellent community leader. He touched so many lives in such a positive way. 

To Bills family, my sincere sympathy in the loss of your dad.
I will always be grateful for his support while I was at the Food Bank.
Bill was for sure a gentle man, a genuine caring & giving supporter of so many in our community.
