Died May 2, after a brief illness, at the Cambridge Memorial Hospital. Lifelong resident of Galt and Preston. Predeceased by Dorothy (nee Simpson) his loving wife of 52 years and by his parents Ernest and Kathleen (Kit). Father of Debra Harder, Dan, Julie and son-in-law Chris Gittings. Proud grandfather of Andrew Harder and Michael Burnett. Bill owned and operated Burnett Insurance for 30 years. From his early football days at GCI, Bill came to enjoy competitive sport. He loved skiing, fishing, golf and curling. He played in the first Ontario School Boys Bonspiel in 1948 and had the honour of throwing the ceremonial first rock at the 60th Anniversary 'spiel. He curled in many bonspiels throughout Ontario with the likes of Syd Smithers, Bill Wylie and Bruce Jardine. A long-time member of the Galt Country Club, Bill won numerous club championships. He played in many tournaments in the province, including qualifying rounds for the Ontario Amateur and Willingdon Cup. He was always engaged in the quest for the perfect swing. Bill's intellectual curiosity and love of music nourished him all his life. He was an avid reader and musician, playing guitar, keyboard, clarinet, and saxophone. The family is grateful to the Angels, Ingrid, Debbie and Gail, who made it possible for Bill to stay in his own home for the last year. Our thanks also to Dr. S. Geddes, and Dr. F. Flamand and to the 4th floor nursing staff. As per Dad's wishes, a private family memorial will be held. Donations to the Cambridge Memorial Hospital Foundation would be appreciated.
