

Born on January 30, 1932, in New Toronto, Ontario, Doug was the beloved son of the late William and Etta Pearson (Thompson). Devoted husband of Margaret (Watson) for almost 71 years, a remarkable partnership filled with love and dedication.
Cherished father of Susan (the late Frank Wodz) and Linda. Much loved grandpa to Grant, Gregory, (Tara) and Graeme; great grandpa to Summer and Autumn. Predeceased by his in-laws, Forbes and Elsie Watson (Stephenson); his brothers Alfred (Marj), and George (Kaye); brother-in-law George Watson; and sister-in-law Marie Watson (Stafford).
Uncle to Jim Pearson (Linda), Julie, Cheryl and families. George Pearson (Brenda), Janelle and family. Bill Watson (Susan), Sarah, Steven (Emma) and family. Ken Watson (Yvette), Shawn, Charlene and families. Paul Watson (Judy), Melissa and Brittany. Deeply missed by cousins, extended family and friends.
In 1950, Doug proudly joined the Canadian Army and served overseas in France and Germany for three years. Following his military service, he began his career with Canada Post at the Port Credit Post Office as a mail clerk. After several promotions, he became part of the pioneering team that implemented the Canadian postal code system nationwide. His career later took him to Ottawa, where he worked at the head office until his retirement after 35 years of dedicated service.
Following retirement, Doug enjoyed driving a school bus part-time, golfing, and cooking. After moving to Cambridge in 1997, he spent many happy years golfing at Grand Valley until dementia and Alzheimer’s took away his ability to continue, demonstrating his resilience and love for the game.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Coutts Funeral Home, 96 St. Andrew’s Street, Cambridge, on Saturday, September 20, 2025, from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
