
.Abraham L. Duncan Jr., 87, of Mechanicsburg, passed away Friday, May 20, 2016 at The Church of God Home, Carlisle. He was born December 18, 1928 in Oberlin, PA; he was the son of the late Abraham L. and Artensa (Houser) Duncan Sr.; and preceded in death by his wife, Mary (Ferguson) Duncan; and his son, Todd Duncan. He is survived by his wife, Madaline Lebo Duncan; daughter, Terry Duncan Hennessy, her husband, Thomas; step-daughter, Linda Wahl, her husband, Richard; 2 granddaughters, Erin Hennessy Carter, her husband, Erick, and Amy Arani; and a grandson, Joseph Hennessy. Abraham was a graduate of Swatara Twp. High School and received his Bachelor's degree in Elementary and Secondary Education from Shippensburg State Teachers College. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War and after his service he attended the Philadelphia College of the Bible for 4 years in preparation for full time missionary work. He worked for 5 years with the Marine Medical Mission in British Columbia, Canada. Returning to PA he earned his Master degree in Guidance Counseling with an additional certification in School Administration from Shippensburg. He continued to work summers in the mission field where he trained and supervised college students on internships with North American Indian Mission based out of British Columbia, Canada. Early in his career he taught as a classroom teacher for Cumberland Valley School District and was later hired by Central Dauphin School District as their first Elementary School Guidance Counselor. He had a lifelong passion for teaching and education and was a constant support for his family and friends. He always had a silly smile or joke at the ready and a calm, realistic positive view of life. He was a wonderful husband and father and will be missed. Funeral Service will be held 11:00 AM Wednesday, May 25, 2016in the Neill Funeral Home, 3401 Market St., Camp Hill. Burial will be in Churchville Cemetery, Oberlin.
