Dorothy Henry, his loving wife of 49 years, survives Herbert. He is also survived by his sons; Herbert Henry III and daughter-in -law Rebecca (Karns) Henry of Carlisle and Christopher Henry of Camp Hill; his brother Robert Henry of Mechanicsburg, sister-in-law Linda Vaughn of Camp Hill and half-brother Herbert M. Henry Sr. “Butch."
Herbert is preceded in death by his father, Herbert H. Henry Sr., his mother Ruth A. Henry (Hill), and half-sister Sandra Lee Henry.
He served in the US Navy from 1971-1992. He was aboard the USS Moale, USS Fairfax County and USS John R. Pierce. In 1974 he received his submarine certification. He additionally served aboard the USS John C. Calhoun (SSBN-630) from 1974-1979 and then aboard the USS Birmingham (SSN-695) from 1982-1988. He was very proud of his submarine service.
Herbert retired in July of 2023. Prior to his retirement, he was employed by Momentum Management Consulting, Inc. in Camp Hill.
He loved to go on day trips with his loving wife. He loved to go bowling- you could always find him participating in multiple leagues throughout the years at ABC West lanes in Mechanicsburg. He was also an avid golfer. He enjoyed watching football on the weekend. He loved any Pennsylvania team- from the Pittsburgh Steelers to Penn State. He was also a fan of the Tennessee Titans.
His most favorite thing to do was spending time with his two boys and looked forward to family dinners throughout the year. Herb was a lifetime member of the United States Submarine Veterans, Inc. and the VFW. He was also a member of the American Legion Post #109 and the Keystone base US Submarines Veterans Inc.
Herb was a loving and caring man; he would do anything for his family. He will be greatly missed by so many.
Services will be private and at the convenience of the family.
