

He was born in Hazelton PA, March 1, 1926 son of the late Neal and Beatrice (McFarland) Wood.
Neal attended MMI Preparatory School and graduated in 1944.
He was a veteran of WWII serving in the U.S. Army Air Corp. He graduated from the University of Utah in 1952 with a degree in civil engineering. Prior to retirement, he was a Highway Engineer with the PA Turnpike and is well known for his development of the Sonic Nap Alert Pattern (SNAP) found along the side of highways and roads which has reduced drift off road accidents by 60% thus saving many thousands of lives.
He was a founding member of Christ Presbyterian Church, Camp Hill.
Neal was a talented ice skater, teaching many hundreds of area children to love the sport. He ran a skate shop out of his home and had many loyal customers, some coming from as far away as Maryland.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife Loretta Knyrim Wood and son Lynn Neal Wood. Survived by his son, Leigh E. Wood, his wife Mary, of Woodbury, MN, grandchildren, Christopher Wood and his wife Meg, and Amanda (Wood) Palmer, and great grandchildren Delaney and Tobias Palmer, and Henry and Elliot Wood.
He will be greatly missed by his church family, wonderful neighbors, and a host of friends including the great people at the Hoss’s restaurant in Mechanicsburg.
Funeral service will be Saturday June 10, 2017 at 11:00 with a viewing at 10:00 at Christ Presbyterian Church. Burial Rolling Green Memorial Park, Camp Hill, following the service. A viewing will be held, Saturday from 10:00 AM until the time of the service at the church.
