Born in Harrisburg, PA, to the late Grant and Mary (Hoon) Shatto, he graduated from West Perry High School.
Surviving Philip is his loving wife Amber (DiRocco) Shatto; his children, Austin Shatto (Wife, Courtnee Shatto, grandchildren Emily, Buddy and RaeLynn), Arron Shatto, Felicity Taylor and Markus Shatto.
He was the youngest of 7 children and grew up in Shermansdale, Pa. He was a skilled craftsman and spent his whole career in the residential construction industry, building beautiful family homes. Philip loved the outdoors, especially bow hunting and salmon fishing. He had a cabin in Potter County he frequented with his buddies. There was no running water, strategically no cell service (for the wives to get ahold of them), but there was cable TV for football. In the later years, we’re not sure how much hunting actually occurred, as there were no deer brought home, but there were plenty of empty beer bottles. He was a diehard Pittsburgh sports fan of the Steelers and Pirates. He made several special trips with his sons, Austin and Arron, to attend the games live and even have a “Shatto” brick behind home plate at PNC Park. Philip was a kind and gentle soul with a witty sense of humor. He had a knack for making everyone laugh, even while making fun of you. He loved to torture his family with his cheesy dad jokes. “Does it smell like updog to you in here?” he would say. When replying, “What is updog?” he would smile and say, “Not much dog, what’s up with you?” And while you wanted to roll your eyes and walk away, you couldn’t help but laugh and smile. Phil gave the best hugs and you felt loved and protected when he embraced you with his strong arms. He was an amazing husband, and an even more amazing father. He spent countless hours coaching soccer and baseball with his boys, Austin and Arron as they grew up. With his daughter, Felicity, he carved out special time to take her on dates out to dinner and to movies. And with his youngest son, Markus, they were inseparable. They often snuck to McDonald’s against his wife’s wishes, built forts inside and out, and played endless hours of trains and Legos. He was deeply loyal and committed to his friends and family. If you were in trouble or need you could count on Philip to be there to help with no questions asked. To say he will be missed is an understatement, but he will live on forever in all of our hearts and memories. His spirit shines through the beauty of his children and grandchildren and we will cherish all the time we all got to spend with Philip.
A visitation will be held from 1:00-2:00 pm on Saturday February 27, 2021 at New Life Assembly of God Church, 397 Bridgeport Road, Landisburg, Pa 17040. A memorial service will begin at 2:00 pm. Burial arrangements will be held at a later date at the convenience of the family.
