With broken hearts, we announce the passing of Darlene Ann Richards at the age of 69. Born on May 10, 1955, Darlene spent her life on Quadra Island, where she was a fiercely loving and loyal mother, nana, sister, daughter, aunt and a friend to many. Proud of her heritage, she cherished her deep roots as part of a long line of Richards on the island.
Darlene took great joy in helping run the Trout Derby each year, an event she held close to her heart, and loved camping at Rebecca Spit. She persevered throughout her diagnosis with unwavering strength, and we couldn’t be more proud of her and how she fought this until the very end.
Blessed with many great friends, Darlene will be remembered for her unique and larger-than-life personality. Many have even referred to her as a Quadra Icon. Her quick wit, and fiery spirit will be forever missed by all who knew her.
Darlene is survived by her brother Reg Richards, sister Margaret Hughes, children Owen and Melissa, grandchildren Austyn, Darian, Soren, and Calise, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. She was predeceased by her parents Dudley and Dodi Richards, and siblings George Richards and Janie Richards Gonzales.
