It is with heavy hearts that we announce the unexpected passing of Gary Willis Dale Parish, who left us on June 18, 2025, at the age of 76, in Port Hardy, B.C., Canada. Born on December 21, 1948, in New Westminster, B.C., Gary was the cherished son of John and Lillian Parish (both deceased) and a beloved member of a large family of seven siblings. Gary is survived by his loving siblings, Vera, Ronald, Dona, and Deborah, as well as five nieces, seven nephews, six great-nieces, and seven great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Vernon and Verle.
Family was the cornerstone of Gary's life. He never missed a special gathering, always prioritizing the bonds that tied him to his loved ones. His presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him. In a remarkable act of love and selflessness, Gary without hesitation became the bone marrow donor for his brother Verle, demonstrating his unwavering commitment to family and the lengths he would go to support those he loved.
In his youth, Gary was actively involved in 4H and Pee Wee footfall, where, despite his size he was a formidable halfback. He loved all sports and was never one to shy away from a challenge, often putting on boxing gloves with his brothers in friendly competition.
A true animal lover, Gary found joy and companionship in his dogs, who were a constant source of happiness throughout his younger years.
Professionally, Gary was a skilled handyman, dedicating many years of his life to work in the lower mainland of British Columbia. Over the last decade he fulfilled his dream of retiring in Port Hardy, where he embraced the beauty of nature and the island lifestyle. He enjoyed exploring Vancouver Island and the Gulf Islands in his camper van, forging memories and creating connections with the breathtaking landscapes around him.
Gary’s passion for learning was a defining characteristic of his life. He was always eager to expand his knowledge and share his wisdom with those around him.
Although he never had children of his own, his greatest love was for his nieces and nephews. His warm heart, generous spirit, and unwavering dedication to family and friends will forever be remembered.
A celebration of Gary’s life will be held at a later date, where family and friends will gather to honour his memory and share stories of the joy he brought into their lives. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to a local animal shelter in Gary’s name, reflecting his love for animals and the compassion he showed throughout his life.
Our Beloved Gary, you will be profoundly missed but never forgotten.
