agreed to pass from this life. As usual , on her own terms. This feisty and
independent lady raised four feisty and independent children with husband
Bob in the Sayward valley back when Sayward was the center of the
known Universe. ( It still is ) Always a willing combatant , she took on
adversaries and family with equal tenacity. Her willingness to stand up for
herself made her an unintentional early advocate for women’s rights. Back
when Bob was the Predator hunter for the government in Sayward she
wanted to hunt with Dad and his friends. She was told a woman’s place
was in the home and besides she had to be able to shoot. She secretly
made the arduous trip to Courtenay on the old Sayward road each
weekend of the Summer taking shooting lessons. She won bronze , silver
and gold marksmanship badges and then before the hunting season
challenged the men and out shot all of them. “ Tell your friends I am not
cooking for them anymore either “ she said to Dad. She did however but
had won her right to be hunting with the men. In later years she
passionately pursued knowledge and studied the raising of consciousness.
With her daughters and extended family they sought teachings around the
globe. While she didn’t turn lead into gold she did cure her own cancer at
home at the age of eighty six. This while still smoking ! True story. There will
be no service at her demand. Her statement was . “ I am not coming out of
here so no fuss, no tears. My advice for you all is to get on with the
business of living.” So another remarkable member of the Greatest
Generation has gone over the trail.
Many thanks to all the nurses and HCA’s at 3B and Discovery Harbour. A
