It is with the deepest sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Henry “Hank” Modras on Sunday February 8, 2026 around 11:00 p.m. Survived and will be deeply missed by his wife Gwen, and children Gary (Laurie) Modras, Val (Jan) Modras and Michael (Crystal) Modras. Grandchildren Adam Modras, Tracy Modras, Kylie (Jonnie) Hansen and Jana Modras. Great grandchildren Isla and Noah Hansen.
Hank was raised in Brampton, Ontario by his aunt and uncle, Stan and Barb Binsell. At the age of 16, Hank felt the call to work and set out for Ocean Falls, British Columbia, where he began his career. In Ocean Falls, Hank found employment as a welder at Crown Zellerbach. It was here that he met the love of his life, Gwyneth Smith. Together they began their family with Gary and Valerie and made Ocean Falls their home until 1965. With the announcement that the mill would be closing the family packed up and like many of the “Rain People” of Ocean Falls, the family relocated to settle in Campbell River. Campbell River remained Hank’s home for the remainder of his life. There they welcomed their youngest son, Michael and continued to build their life centered around family, friendships and sports. From a young age, he was deeply involved in sports and remained active throughout his life. Hank was well known on the ball fields for his fast pitch and crafty junk balls. While golf held his interest, it was bowling that truly became his passion and kept him strong and active into his 90’s. His dedication, resilience, and love of community will be fondly remembered by all who knew him. He will be deeply missed.
We would like to say Thank You to Dr. Logan and staff at the Campbell River Hospital for his care.
A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date.
