Dear friends. It is with immense sadness that our family announces that our beloved Kevin Edmund James; our brother, Uncle, husband, father, friend, etcetera, has passed away. Kevin passed away peacefully, on his own terms while surrounded by family, after a brief bout with metastatic melanoma cancer.
Kevin is survived by his loving wife, Shelley, his triplet brother Russell and sister in law Melanie, brother Scott and Isabel, daughters Krystal Kahn and Ashley Adie, son in law David Wehowsky and Francesca, niece Katie and Zach, nephew Chris, grandkids Leah Chloe Piper and Eric, and neighbour Ele. He is also survived by many friends past and present and many many more relatives! Kevin is also survived by his beloved furry family Guinness, Maggie May, Bella Nina, and Sidion, and his Grandcats Lennie and Haley.
Kevin is blissfully reunited with daughter Karyle Wehowsky, his triplet baby brother Danny, parents John and Joyce Goodrich, neighbour Gina Taus, his friend Don McLeod, Ella May and Eli Xavier the dog, and Isa the cat.
Kevin had a passion for helping people, indicated but certainly not limited to, his Master of Communications degree. From being an Early Childhood Educator alongside his daughter Karyle when she was quite young, to Child Protective Services, to Employment Coaching, to Mental Health and Addictions Outreach, and so so much more!
When he wasn't out and about physically helping others, he was helping the people around him with his terrible puns and being a pro at the Bad Dad Jokes; a trait which, delightfully, rubbed off on all his daughters. Kevin was very blunt and said things as they were: he did not believe in sugarcoating. He was a firm believer and supporter of Men's health, Woman's rights and LGBTQ+ rights. Electronics and technological advances were a favourite pastime of his.
Kevin also had a massive passion for motorcycles and riding them. His much loved Harley Davidson and sidecar were appropriately named Thelma and Louise. He took Thelma (and sometimes Louise), on a wide array of countless adrenaline filled rides over the years!
In 2012, he met his beloved wife Shelley, on the website “Plenty Of Fish”. Despite the stigma attached to that particular website, their relationship was a success, and on August 30, 2014, they tied the knot in a beautiful Celtic themed wedding. Him and Shelley went on so many fun adventures together. From driving halfway across the country with their trailer, flying to Nova Scotia, to doing a European cruise, driving all over BC, and even flying to the Philippines for Shelley's 50th birthday! They truly brought out the best in each other. One of their favourite past times was going to their daughter Ashley's Special Olympics competitions and being *those* parents, with matching colour coordinated outfits and loud cowbells and pom-poms and Very loud voices that caused other athletes and coaches to go, Are those your parents??
One of the family's last major adventures was a trip to Shuswap Lake for a houseboat excursion, with Dave, Melanie, Russell, Shelley, Ashley, and his four grandkids. So many memorable moments were made there, particularly as Kevin was the houseboat captain!
The family would love to extend a infinite thank you to Dr. Debruin and all health care providers who were with him in his final stage of life. A gracious eternal thank you to the doctor who provided the MAID passing, and their kindness and compassion with Kevin as he ascended towards the Pearly Gates.
If there's anything to take from this write up, and knowing that Kevin himself would say the same, is to go out and live your life each day like it's your last. You never know when your time will be up. Forgive those who hurt you, make amends with the people you've hurt, be kind to one another, stick up for those who are being trotted down, and never look down on anybody, for you too, could be where they are.
Also, to keep a close eye on your skin and wear sunscreen!
Lastly, if you have the chance to go out and do something nice for someone, take the opportunity. Whether it be in the form of a compliment, a caramel macchiato, silent listening empathetic ears, a terrible pun and/or Bad Dad Joke.
