Rodger was just a toddler when the family moved and settled in Fort St. John, BC. At a young age they found he had visual and cognitive impairments. This didn’t stop him from leading a full and independent life. He attended an alternate school through his childhood and excelled at most everything. In his late teens and early twenties, he attended Fairview College, and moved to Victoria for a vocational program. From that point on he was determined to move back to the island one day.
In the early 90’s he moved to High River where he lived with Craig’s family for a short time, then relocated to Grande Prairie, where he started his 24-year career with United Safety Ltd. One of his most proud achievements.
After a couple of years, he moved with the company to Airdrie, Alberta he called this home for over 20 years. This is where he met and was married to Barb for 13 years. He also became a dad to his stepson Steven.
Rodger was predeceased by his parents Dean & Syl. He leaves behind his brothers Ken (Kathy) Gauvreau, Craig (Janet) Gauvreau. His sisters Renee (Ritchard) LaBoucane, and Corrie (Darrin) Paynter. His nephews Travis Gauvreau and Hayden LaBoucane. Nieces Courtnee (Matt) Bouwmeester, Bridgit (Colin) O’Donnell, Jordyn (Chris) Miller, Makaela Paynter and Morgan LaBoucane. Great Nephew Gracin Miller. Great Nieces Lilly & Rebecca Bouwmeester, Haeleigh Miller.
Rodger was able enjoy his retirement time back on Vancouver Island, adventuring with his family and seeing the sights. He was a kind-hearted, gentle soul and touched everyone he met. We will all miss his smile, laugh and those bear hugs that almost crush you.
