Duane was born in the state of Pennsylvania where his family history dates back to the 1600; s. He was raised by his parents Verna and Alvin & his beloved grandparents Myron and Edna (who used to call him “butter boy”) whom he loved very much.
Duane James Cooper served our country with the Navy and many years as a reservist as well. Education was important virtue to Duane who had a Bachelors of Physics, and in his retirement also earned a Masters in Computer Science. He worked many years in the aerospace industry, and also tried his hand in owning his own business.
Duane was married to Jean for an eventful 63 years, as they moved from one coast to the other when they landed in sunny California for the last 43 years. Duane was active member of San Fernando chess club, and a public servant for the San Fernando California Amateur Radio Emergency Service (ARES).
Duane was a quiet man, and lived out his belief in liberty, freedom and justice with the values laid down in the bible. In Dad’s toolbox, there were some that needed repair but the most valuable ones he shared freely which included:
* Take care of what you have (he always reminded his kids the job is not done till the tools are put away, and don’t do anything that cannot be undone),
* Live with purpose (use tools for its intended purpose)
* Be Persistent (if you don’t succeed the first time, try try again)
* Be humble and steadfast (he led by action and not words, and followed his dreams)
Duane passed away February 2021 shortly after his 90th birthday and is survived by his three children Phillip, Ellen, Jonathan and his wife Maria as well as 5 grandchildren Steven, Benjamin, Mathew, Caroline, Michelle and her husband Tim, and the newest addition to the family, his great-grandson Nicholas. Duane’s passing was preceded by his wife Jean, their son James and his sister Shirley.
