

Walis (Kelly) Carlberg returned to God’s loving arms on March 15, 1992.
On January 3, 2015 Mona Eileen Carlberg joined Walis in heaven in a partnership that began in 1936.
Mona Carlberg née West was born February 14, 1918 in Herman, Nebraska to Miles West and Marie West née Bates. Mona graduated Herman High School in 1935. Soon after, Mona, her mother, father and soon to be husband, Walis Carlberg moved out west. Mona quickly found employment at the Wells Lamont Smith Glove Factory in McMinnville, Oregon and on December 25, 1936 Mona and Walis tied the knot.
Mona and Walis then moved to Hollywood, California and worked for Van de Kamp’s Bakery. After living in Hollywood for two years, Mona and Walis moved to the San Fernando Valley and built their first home in North Hollywood.
Mona became a Navy Wife when Walis enlisted into the military during WWII. During the War Years Mona worked in the Lake City, Florida Tax Assessor’s Office and as a War Bonds Clerk at the St John Ship Yard, Jacksonville, Florida.
After the war Mona and Walis returned to their home in North Hollywood, California. Soon they built their second home in Tarzana. In 1960 Mona and Walis moved to their West Hills home and raised their three sons, Bruce, Neil and Dale.
Mona was baptized in Saint Luke’s Lutheran Church in 1964.
Mona’s interests included caring for her family, participating in her sons’ activities being a Cub Scout Den Mother, a Home Room Teacher and enjoyed many camping adventures. Mona and Walis were members of a local Square Dancing Club. Mona enjoyed maintaining her home and was particularly proud of her Dichondra lawn. Mona worked for the Elections Board for a number of years, even hosting a few elections in her home. Mona also enjoyed doing fabric painting and craftwork for the Senior Center and others. When the kids moved away Mona and Walis enjoyed traveling in their RV and going on ocean cruises.
Mona and Walis celebrated their Golden Anniversary on December 25, 1986. Mona assisted Walis with his long-term illness until his passing in ¬¬¬¬1992 at 79 years of age. Mona also provided assistance for her mother, Marie until her passing in 2001 just short of being 104 years old.
Mona is survived by son Bruce Carlberg and his wife Barbara Curbow of Gainesville, Florida and their children, Caitlin Carlberg and husband Martin Morales of Washington DC, and Oksana Carlberg also of Gainesville, Florida; son Neil Carlberg and his wife Sheila Hanlon of Bellingham, Washington and his stepdaughter Jennifer Eliuk of Denver, Colorado; son Dale Carlberg of Oxnard, California, his son Kelly Carlberg of Oxnard, California, his stepdaughter Jessica Woods of Fort Smith, Arkansas, and his stepson Michael Kettler of San Diego, CA..
Mona was preceded in death by her husband Walis Carlberg, her father Miles West, her mother Marie West and her sister Betty Stout.
