Elaine Cohen

COHEN, Elaine (Rutstein) aged 92, of Needham, MA formerly of Brookline, MA passed away on September 1, 2017. Widow of the late Edward L. Cohen, daughter of the late Florence M. and Charles Rutstein. Loving and devoted mother of Ellen Ivy (Cohen) Czahar and her husband Gregory of Taunton, MA. Longtime companion of Warren “Goody” Goodman of Brookline. She leaves behind two nieces, Amy Rutstein Riley and Felice Rutstein Lee, one nephew, Dennis Rutstein and numerous cousins who loved her very much. Her cousin, Marvin Shapiro, was particularly loving, kind and benevolent to Elaine in her later years, which was much appreciated by her immediate family. Elaine grew up in Brookline and went to Michael Driscoll School and Brookline High School. She went to Kathleen Dell Business School to learn secretarial skills. She worked for many years at Joseph Silverman and Company in South Boston, which is where she met Goody eating lunch at the A Street Diner. She later worked for a pediatrician, Sidney Brodie, MD, for many years since she always loved children. Known for a while as “The Unofficial Mayor of Brookline” and nicknamed “Hollywood” at Wingate at Needham. Elaine loved life and she loved people. She loved knitting, playing Bingo and doing Jigsaw puzzles. Elaine particularly loved her family and friends dearly. Cherished were the Birthday and Holiday Celebrations, along with the weekly family visits and Facebook Videos she made with Ellen on Sundays. Our hearts are broken at the loss of this vibrant, loving, wonderful woman, mother, aunt, cousin and friend. Funeral services will be held on Monday, September 4, 2017 at 10:00 AM at Stanetsky Memorial Chapel, 475 Washington Street, Canton, MA followed by interment at Sharon Memorial Park, Sharon, MA. Memorial observance will be held at the home of Marc and Annette Epstein following interment.
