Hello, i am one of mrs. Kollangi's students. My Bat Mitzvah was one of the last she attended, and the last memory i have of her. It was a happy and joyus day that much resembeled her personality. I am aware it has been quit a while without her, but today in school I was reminded of her by such a small detail no one else would notice. Although it gave me a minute of pain, it reminded me of what type of person she was. Her presence was with me the rest of the day and her power will power me the rest of my life. I am so incredibly lucky to have known her so well, and today I was reminded of that; i wanted to show that time will not affect wounds and bonds because she is still fresh in my heart and my mind.

The Slutsky family is deeply saddened about the passing of Ellen Kollangi, a beautiful, compassionate and joyful person who created positive, loving energy instantly when she entered a room. She tutored my son, Harrison, for his. Bar Mitzvah and we will never forget her kindness and wisdom. To her family, please accept our sincere condolences at this time.

" A woman of valor, who can find? Her worth is far above jewels."  Ellen was truly a devoted woman of value as a wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, friend, and educator.  I found this from the Talmud and thought of cousin Ellen: "There are stars who's light only reaches the earth long after they have fallen apart. There are people who's remembrance gives light in this world, long after they have passed away. This light shines in our darkest nights on the road we must follow." I had the pleasure of working at Temple Beth David with Ellen and feel the deepest sadness that she is gone. She was a wonderful human being.  Please accept my most sincere condolences.

  So sorry to hear of Ellen's passing. May her memory be a blessing.

Ellen taught each of our 3 children in Hebrew School and Bar/Bat Mitzvah lessons. She was one of the kindest, generous and devoted person we have ever met. One our favorite teachers and she will be surely missed. A true treasure.

We will miss her smile, sense of humor, good advice and and warm family Passover Seders.

Words can not express the loss I feel for my friend Ellen. We worked together at TBA for too many years to count. I called her "my partner in crime", as we spent every Wednesday morning for the past two years planning for the Hebrew School. We shared a special connection, more than just two teachers, we were friends.Ellen tutored both my girls for their Bat Mitzvot. Her loss is a loss to our whole community. May her memory be a blessing.

I had Mrs. Kollangi at Temple Beth David for Hebrew School in 1999, in 7th grade. We were studying the Holocaust and we were talking about the Warsaw uprising in the ghetto. She taught us about the Jews who fought back. And she asked me, in front of the class, what I would have done had I been there. I told her I probably would have hid somewhere and hoped for the best. She looked at me and said, "Do you really think that? Because I think you would have fought back. You're not one to sit around. You're a leader." 

I'm 28 now, and I was recently thinking about this. I did a Google search to try to find Mrs. Kollangi's e-mail address or phone number to tell her that that has stuck with me for more than 15 years. (And I've garnered a reputation as being a leader). 

I found a message board from Temple Beth Abraham with her name on it, and I thought that must be her. I e-mailed the temple office on June 14, 2015 asking for her e-mail address and providing my own. I never heard back, and it was on my to-do list to follow up. I'm sad to know I just missed her, and I want her family to know how much those words she said to me stuck have stuck.

This has been a tough year for me and loved ones. My heart goes out to Mrs. Kollangi's family. Stay strong - that's what she would want - she told me so in Hebrew School.
