

The Honorable Frederick C. Cohen passed away on July 18, 2025 at the age of 90. Fred was born in Worcester, MA to the late Sylvia and David Cohen. He grew up in Worcester where he graduated from Clark University, then Boston University School of Law. In 1962, he married the love of his life, Sorrell, and moved to Maryland, where they raised their 3 children. After retiring to FL, Fred learned to play the banjo. He and Sorrell traveled extensively and enjoyed precious time with family. Fred spent his career in the Federal Government, first as an Attorney and then as an Administrative Law Judge. In addition, he taught classes at The George Washington University School of Law. In his earlier years he was an avid runner and ran many marathons, including the Boston, New York and Marine Corps marathons.
He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Sorrell D. Cohen; his children Sheryl D. Haas (Mickey) of Rangeley, ME, David S. Cohen (Jill) of Ellsworth, ME, and Robin L. Cohen of Rockville, MD; sister Judy Oehler (Larry) of Bloomfield, CO and sister-in-law Minna Levin of Hingham, MA. He was predeceased by his parents Sylvia and David Cohen and stepmother Jean Cohen, brother Dr. Joseph Cohen (Freida), stepsister Mimi Plastrik (Larry), and brother-in-law Henry Levin. Proud grandfather of Lainey Barwick (Justin), Jessica Cohen, Jacob Haas and Benjamin Haas. Fred is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at Stanetsky Memorial Chapel, 475 Washington Street, Canton, MA at 1 PM, on Tuesday, July 22, 2025, with burial to follow at Sharon Memorial Park, 40 Dedham Street, Sharon, MA. Friends and family are invited to join the family for shiva at the home of Minna Levin on Tuesday, immediately following the burial. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in Fred’s memory may be donated to a charity of your choice.
