Ina Kornetsky, cherished mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully at the age of 93 after an almost eight-year courageous battle with ovarian cancer. Her passing leaves a profound void in the lives of her family, her friends, and her community at Orchard Cove.
Ina was born in Everett, MA on November 22, 1932. She was the only child of Fannie and David Melamed and a first-generation American. Ina grew up in Chelsea, MA and graduated at the top of her class at Chelsea High School in 1950.
She met her future husband, Aaron, when she was still in high school, and he was a sophomore at University of Massachusetts – Amherst. Ina attended UMass-Amherst and completed her degree in Education at Boston University. They married in August 1953 and moved to Maryland where Aaron was earning his PhD at University of Maryland. They had two children and later returned to the Boston area, settling in Sharon, MA. Ina was active in Temple Israel of Sharon Sisterhood, Hadassah, and Brandeis Women’s Book Club, before retuning to teaching in the early 1970s at Solomon Schechter Day School in Newton, MA. She later worked for many years at the South Area Jewish Community Center as leading children’s and senior adult programming.
In a defining moment of strength and resilience, she faced the early loss of Aaron when she was 49 years old, only a few months after the marriage of Seth to his wonderful wife, Susan Zimmerman. Rather than succumbing to grief, she chose to celebrate life and became extremely independent. In doing so, she established a new and deeply meaningful companionship for 15 years with her beloved second husband, Hillel Langerman, and she became a treasured member of his loving family, who, even after Hillel’s passing, remained connected and close to her to the end of her life. Ina moved to Orchard Cove Senior Living in Canton when she was 85 years old and lived to enjoy seeing her grandchildren become adults. She also cherished the past three years with her great-grandson.
Ina leaves behind her son Seth Kornetsky (Susan), daughter Susan Kornetsky (Mark Meridy), grandchildren Adam Kornetsky (Julie Galt) and Rachel Kornetsky, Ari Meridy, Ayelet Meridy and her great-grandchild, Jacob Kornetsky. She also leaves many loving members of the extended Langermann family and friends.
