He was the beloved husband of Terry (Denman) Mermelstein, with whom he shared almost 55 years of marriage. Lothar was born in Schweinfurt, Germany, and was the son of Isador and Ida (Stein) Mermelstein.
In addition to his loving wife, Terry, he also left behind his devoted children: Hayley Mermelstein of Amherst MA, Leah Mermelstein of Hoboken, New Jersey and Josh Mermelstein of Ashland, MA and his wife Anne Mermelstein. He also leaves behind his cherished grandchildren: Vince, Celia, Mark and Ariana Mermelstein, as well as his loyal twin brother, Egon Mermelstein.
Lothar loved planning and going on great adventures with his wife. He kept his body active on his many long walks and trips to the gym. He kept his mind active by his daily trips to the library researching any topic he could get his hands on. He enjoyed movies and the theater. No matter what he did, he did it with complete devotion and a little bit of mischief. He approached his marriage, his parenting and his grandparenting with softness, mischief and fun.
A private graveside services was held at Sharon Memorial Park.
