Maxene J. Rinkofsky of Stoughton, formerly of Milton, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 12, 2026, at the age of 70. She was the daughter of the late Bernice (Zola) and Arnold Rinkofsky, and the devoted sister of the late Lois Rinkofsky. Maxene is survived by adoring cousins and a wide network of dear friends and family, many of whom rallied around her during recent months. Those who knew her will forever remember her warmth, sense of humor and cheerfulness. Maxene may have been short in stature but she was tall in spirit and always made you feel good to be in her presence.
Maxene spent many years working as a retail buyer, specializing in women’s shoes, handbags, and accessories with companies like Field’s Hosiery, J Baker Shoes and Tello’s. She enjoyed traveling to New York City’s Fashion District and visiting manufacturing sites in the South. Later in her career, Maxene moved into financial services at Equiserve, MFS and The Hartford, and before retiring, she also worked in customer service and sales for Creative Gifts International. She had received her Associates Degree in Business from Massasoit Community College and a Paralegal Certificate from Northeastern University.
For decades, Maxene watched lovingly over the well-being and care of her developmentally disabled sister, Lois, working with the caring staff at her group home to ensure Lois enjoyed a long and enjoyable life.
Maxene loved to socialize with relatives and with her many local friends at the American Legion Post in Canton. She was a loving cat-mom to Elvis and then Zelda. Maxene thrived for years past her initial prognosis, a testament both to the excellent, state-of-the-art health care she received from Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and other providers, and especially to her own cheerful, positive spirit.
Friends are warmly invited to a memorial service for Maxene at Stanetsky Memorial Chapel, 475 Washington Street, Canton on Thursday, January 22nd at 1:00 PM, with a reception following the service.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Maxene’s memory may be made to Dana-Farber Cancer Institute at www.dana-farber.org or to a charity of your choice.
