Daughter of Jack and Esther Thaler, she was the beloved mother of Kira Marbit and her husband Steve Marbit and cherished grandmother of Evan and Milo Marbit. Sister of the dearly departed David Thaler and his wife Sharon Thaler, and Fred Thaler and his wife Elyse Thaler. Niece of Shirley Roiter. Aunt of Jack, Sam, Abe, Ethan and Marc Thaler. Great aunt of Reese, Ira, and Brody Thaler.
Mona was born in New York City in 1943, grew up in Fall River, Mass., went to Barnard College and Columbia University in what she considered the greatest city in the world, Manhattan. She moved and raised her daughter Kira in Brookline, Mass. She was employed for years at Gateway Arts in Brookline, working with adult artists with disabilities.
She became a grandmother first in 2002 and then again in 2007, which was quite possibly the greatest pleasure in her lifetime. She got endless joy from both of her wonderful grandsons. In 2013 she moved to Natick, Mass., to be closer to Kira and family. She would go every week to Kira’s house to watch her beloved Patriots during their amazing Dynasty. Mona, who had many longtime friends, also adored spending time with Kira’s friends and became like a second mother to them. She moved again in 2021 to a lovely home in Natick so that she could be just a song away from Kira.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a funeral service at 1 PM on Tuesday, March 11 at Stanetsky Memorial Chapel, 475 Washington Street, Canton, Mass. Burial will follow at 3 PM at Beth El Cemetery, 4620 N. Main Street, Fall River, Mass.
Shiva will be at Mona’s late residence in Natick on Wednesday, March 12 from 4-7 PM.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Mona’s name can be sent to Gateway Arts at https://gatewayarts.org/donate/
