She is also survived by granddaughters Samantha, Catie and Annie Segaloff; brothers-in-law Harvey (Roz) Segaloff and Alan (Phyllis) S; and her beloved nieces, nephews and great-nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, Edith and Barnett Schwartz.
Roberta – Bobbie to friends and family – was born and raised in Chelsea, Mass., where she graduated Chelsea High School in 1958. She excelled at dance, eventually becoming an instructor at Zunino Studio in Revere. Later, she never missed an opportunity to get on the dance floor and even danced the tango in Buenos Aires.
She loved to travel and was always up for a road trip. Hawaii, where she and Steve celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary, was her favorite destination. Together they visited sites in the United States, including Colorado, San Francisco, New Orleans and Santa Fe; other parts of North America, including Quebec, Toronto, Montreal and Nova Scotia; and Europe, including Amsterdam, Brussels, London and Paris.
Roberta loved movies and as a child would take herself to the local matinee every week. She also loved dogs (especially beagles), bowling, fast cars and coffee. She favored music of the 50s, Star Trek and Harry Potter. She was a ringer at trivia games, regularly taking home the top prize. And she was insistent that no family bed go without a hand-crocheted Afghan – from crib to college and beyond.
She will be missed dearly and remembered fondly by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
A Graveside Service and burial is planned for 2:45 PM on Wednesday, December 14th, at Sharon Memorial Park, 40 Dedham Street, Sharon, MA.
Shiva will be observed at the Segaloff home on Thursday, December 15th from 5 PM to 8 PM, and continuing Friday, December 16th from 11 AM to 3 PM.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Roberta’s name be made to the Jimmy Fund at the Dana Farber Cancer Institute at www.jimmyfund.org or the National Kidney Foundation at www.kidney.org.
