Steve began his passion for percussion as a young teenager; performing in bands up until his last year of life. Aside from family, his spare time was devoted to playing music, and collecting the cleanest and rarest vintage drums known to the world of percussion. He was widely known as one of the largest and most knowledgeable vintage drum collectors in the world. His passion became his addiction after buying his first engraved Ludwig Black Beauty over 30 years ago before collecting was a thing. He was not only a well-respected drum historian but a valuable industry resource to many. His expertise, thoughts, and collection have been published in drum magazines and journals all over the world. His museum-quality collection surpassed that of other collectors making him a legend within the community. When he wasn’t practicing law, he practiced drumming. He spent more than 30 years keeping his rock ‘n roll charity band, Political Asylum, in rhythm.
Shiva services will be held at the primary Hillman residence located in Sharon, MA to celebrate and share his lifelong love of music, drumming, laughter, and family.
