He was preceded in death by his wife, Lois Worrell of over sixty-five years. Fred is survived by his son, Rick; his daughter, Pam (Joseph); his grandchildren, Trey, Julia (Josh), Lexie, and Ben; and his great-grandchildren, Walter, Hazel, and Winston.
Fred had many achievements in his life which included being a Professor Emeritus of Sociology at his alma mater, Kent State University. During his ninety-three years, he held a variety of administrative and teaching positions after serving in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Fred was an executive director for the Y.M.C.A., associate executive director and planning director for the United Way, director of community schools, and director of the Midwest Writers Conference. He received a Fulbright Award to teach sociology and social work at Trent Polytechnic in Nottingham, England for the 1982-83 academic year in their division of social sciences. Fred resumed his teaching mainly on the Stark Campus of Kent State University between 1966 and 2012. In 2019, he became an author and wrote his book, “A Religious Journey: The Sun of God”. Fred was able to befriend any person he ever met and was one of the “punniest” people you would ever meet. Fred was an excellent minded man who accomplished many things in his ninety-three years of life. His heart of gold will be forever missed, and those who remain will always have him in their memories. May he rest in peace.
A special heartfelt thank you for Fred’s home care team Mary Thompson and Keisha Peterson.
The celebration of life for Fred will be held at the Karlo-Libby Funeral Home (5000 Everhard Road NW, Canton, OH 44718) on Sunday, July 24th from 4pm-7pm.
