

Pauline C. Long, age 98, passed away August 14, 2011 at Hanover House Nursing Home. Born March 8, 1913, in Canton, Ohio to John F. Horning and Rose (Schreiber) Horning. She graduated from Canton McKinley High School in 1930. She was organist at St. Michael’s Church and retired in 1975 and moved to Lake Worth, Florida. On October 26, 1933, she married John F. Long in Canton, Ohio. She was a member of St. Michael’s Church of Canton.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, John Long; a brother Lauren Horning. She is survived by her children, Nancy (Bill) Lee, Margaret Erbland, Robert (Linda) Long, all of Canton. Thomas (Vivian) Long of Cheyenne, Wyoming, John (Alice) Long of Lake Worth, Florida and sister Phyllis Miller and numerous nieces and nephews; 16 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, 16 great-great grandchildren and very dear friend Bee Seitz.
She was a member of the Garden Club and Sociable Seniors at St. Michael’s. She belonged to Young at Heart and Widows Breakfast Clubs.
While living in Florida she was President of the Ladies Guild at Sacred Heart Church in Lake Worth, President of Palm Beach Deanery and served on the Diocesan Council of Catholic Women, President of the Federated Woman’s Club of Lake Worth, served on the Board of Directors for Catholic Charities of the Palm Beach Diocese, and was a member of the Lake Worth Chamber of Commerce and Civic Counsel of Lake Worth. She was also active for eleven years in the Belle Glade Migrant Center, also a member of the Salvation Army Woman’s Auxiliary of Palm Beach County.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 2pm, Friday, August 19th at St. Michael Catholic Church, 3430 St. Michael Drive, Canton, with Rev. Fr. Donald King officiating. Friends may call Thursday, August 18th between 5-8pm at Karlo-Libby Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested for the Salvation Army, 420 S. Market Ave., Canton, Ohio 44702.
