Rich was born in Canton, Ohio on February 26, 1952. He was a hardworking and devoted father who built his life around providing for and supporting his family. Above all else, Rich loved his family deeply and found his greatest joy in the time he spent with them—especially his grandchildren, who were the light of his life.
For over a decade, Rich fought cancer with extraordinary courage and resilience. Many who crossed his path would have never known the depth of his battle. He carried himself with strength, hope, and quiet determination that inspired everyone around him. Even in his final days, when his body had grown tired, his spirit remained strong as he held on with his beloved wife by his side.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Eunice and Richard Barnhart.
Rich is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Becky (Taylor); his children, Missy (Matt) Bragg and Adam (Gabby) Barnhart; his cherished grandchildren, Noah, Carter, Mia, Zack, Grant and Waylon; his sister, Karen (Dick) Miller; his many nieces and nephews; mother-in-law Mona Sheldon; brother-in-law Steve Taylor; and endless extended family.
Rich had a passion for life that showed in everything he did. He was an avid Cleveland sports fan who loved spending time with his closest friends, Kromer and Cheryl Weekley, family fishing adventures with Phil and Tess Zepp, and attending every possible sporting event as his grandkids number one fan, but maybe not the ref’s.
His life was defined not by his illness, but by the love he gave, the strength he showed, and the example he set for all who knew him. His story is one of inspiration—a reminder that faith, love, and determination can push beyond even the toughest odds. Rich’s legacy will live on through his family, who will carry his strength, spirit, and love forward every day.
A celebration of life will be held on July 25, 2026, allowing family to join in honoring his memory. More details to come. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a GoFundMe established to support arrangements or in Rich’s memory to Aultman Hospice and Palliative Care.
