Sandy was born March 27, 1948. She graduated from Kent State University in 1970 with a Bachelor’s in Early Childhood Education, from the University of Akron in 1978 with a Master’s in Supervision, and was named a Jennings Scholar in 1981. She contributed to the teaching profession by being a cooperating teacher for many student teachers though her career.
Sandy taught 1st grade in Copley-Fairlawn Schools for 2 years and was with Plain Local Schools 28 years as a kindergarten teacher at Edgefield (Christ United Methodist Church), Frazer, where she met husband-to-be Mike in 1974, and Pleasant View, Barr, and Avondale Elementary Schools. She retired in 2000.
Sandy actively participated in the Plain Local Teachers’ Association as a teacher advocate, building rep, corresponding secretary, OEA delegate, and Plain Local coordinator for the Community Blood Program.
Before and especially after retiring from her education career, Sandy embraced what she loved outside of teaching: gardening, going to garage sales to search for items she would redesign as unique home décor pieces, creatively decorating for all the holidays and seasons, and doing specialized interior home painting. Her home was her living workshop. Sandy cherished lunches and dinners with her gal-pals.
Sandy’s zest for adventure took her to Europe by backpack and South America where she did part of
her student teaching in Bogota, Colombia, and with Mike to many states in the US, to Canada,
Mexico, Japan, China, Southeast Asia, much of Europe and on Caribbean cruises.
Sandy is preceded in death by her loving parents Daniel and Anne (Hlobick) Pavkov, nephew
Michael Moneypenny, and many dear uncles and aunts.
She is survived by Mike, her husband of 32 years, sisters, Donna Moneypenny of Palm Harbor, FL,
