Sara J. Fry, age 94, of North Canton, went to be with her Lord and Savior on August 18, 2023 at Aultman Hospice Compassionate Care Center, while peacefully surrounded by her two sons. She was born March 4, 1929 in Wooster and was a resident of North Canton since 1962. After raising her three sons as a stay at home mom, she entered the corporate world working for the Hoover Company for 18 years. She was also employed at the Hoover Company Credit Union. After her retirement from Hoover, she became a greeter and office help for the Karlo & Sons Funeral Home, nka Karlo-Libby Funeral Home, and held that position until last year.
Sara was most active in her church, Zion United Church of Christ. She served on the Consistory Council; was an elder and a deacon; sang in the choir; worked on the Zeal Newsletter; and had many roles in Vacation Bible School. She was most proud of being only one of two persons ever given the title of Elder Emeritus of the church. Sara was blessed with a beautiful voice and she used her gift to spread God's glory. Besides the church choir, she sang in A Chorus For A Cause as a cancer survivor. The highlight of her singing career came in 2010 when A Chorus For A Cause performed at Carnegie Hall in New York City. Until Covid, Sara also sang in John Hayward's Community Commemorative Choir paying tribute to 911 heroes and survivors. Sara being a faithful servant was also a volunteer for Meals on Wheels and served on its board of directors.
Sara is survived by her two sons, Robert & Cynthia of Hilton Head Island, SC; and John & LInda of San Clemente, CA; seven grandchildren: Nate Fry (Jess), Michael Fry, Lindsay Fry, Ethan Fry, Lou Ann Walker (David), Andrew Fry (Tracy), Allyson Fry-Petit (Andrew); 12 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by her parents, Oscar and Violet Engel; husband Ernest in 1999; brothers, Floyd and Bob; sister, Wava; and son, Thomas in 2005.
