Wilbur Frederick Amacher Jr.

Wilbur was born on September 29, 1927, in Ridgway, PA to the late Wilbur and Violet (Richards) Amacher, Sr. Wilbur served in the United States Marine Corps from 1951 to 1953 until he was honorably discharged. He attended the University of Buffalo in New York, where he obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Science, and then he graduated from the University of Akron in Ohio with his Master’s Degree in Education. He worked for the Plain Local Schools as a 6th grade teacher for many years and then went on to serve as an Elementary Principal at Ransom Barr School for 27 years until he retired in 1991. Wilbur loved his career in education, especially working as a teacher, and he was very grateful for the wonderful staff he had as a principal that kept him alert, not knowing what to expect next, which was all in good fun. Wilbur was married to Kathleen Krieg for 44 years before she passed on June 9, 1994. Two of Wilbur’s proudest moments were the births of his and Kathleen’s two sons, Bill and Brett. On November 25, 1995, he married Joyce “Joy” Cuthbertson, and they have enjoyed almost 30 years of marriage together.

Along with his loving wife, Joy, Wilbur is survived by his children, Bill and Brett Amacher, Joy’s children: Terry Richardson, and Gordon and David Cuthbertson; many grandchildren, four of which live in Ohio: Rebecca, Callum, Maggie, and Mackenzie; three siblings: Gale Amacher, Sarah Benedetti, and Judy Rinyu.

Along with his parents, Wilbur Sr. and Violet, Wilbur is preceded in death by three siblings: Kenneth, Elaine, and James Amacher.

Calling hours for Wilbur will be held at Karlo-Libby Funeral Home on Sunday, May 18, 2025, from 5:00 - 7:00 pm and at Whipple Avenue Baptist Church on Monday, May 19, 2025, from 11:00 am – 12:00 pm. A funeral service will begin at the church on Monday at 12:00 pm with Pastors John Moosey and Shaun Matako officiating. A burial will follow at Sunset Hills Burial Park.
