of Jackson Township, age 86, passed to a new life on Jan. 6, 2012. In addition to his parents, Mary Alice (Strouble) and Edwin Sibila, Bill is preceded in death by all of his siblings: Rita Stitz (Louie), Jeannette Kirk (Dick), Tootie Etling (Les), Bob (Mary), Morry, Honey Lou Meeting, Ally Mae Corbi (Frank), Glenn (Bert), and Gene (Helen) - a mighty fine Canal Fulton family.
Bill is survived by Irene, his loving wife of 63 years, his daughters Joan Dubay (Tom), Sue McCallin (John), and his son Mike (Nan). Bill has three grandchildren, Jessica and Abbie Dubay, and JP McCallin (Tracy), and a great-grandchild, Ian Padraig, who gave him great joy. He leaves behind a sister-in-law, Lillian Sibila (Morry) and a brother-in-law, Jack Meeting (Honey Lou), and over thirty nieces and nephews who fondly called him Uncle Bill.
Bill started his career as a mechanic fixing bicycles as a youngster in Canal Fulton. He worked at Ford, Mercury and Buick dealerships in service departments until he partnered with Fred Kling in Volkswagens and Subarus. Bill was stationed in India as a mechanic in World War II. He was an active member of the EAA Chapter 137 building and flying airplanes. Bill and Irene are original members of Saint Michael the Archangel parish. Most recently, Bill has been a volunteer at Habitat for Humanity's Restore. In his retirement, Bill was a constant companion to his son Mike, building and remodeling. Living by the motto "Waste not, want not", Bill turned lumber scraps into hundreds of bird houses, shelves, magazine racks, stools, and tables. He loved the challenge of repairing anything. He had the spare parts and the tools to do it all. The patriarch of our family lives on in our 'can-do' attitude and positive spirit.
