Cathy and "kids", I learned Saturday evening that Billy had died after his battle with cancer. 

It doesn't seem possible rhat over 20 years have passed since we met during my time at FBC Myrtle Springs. I treasure the time we shared there and still remember Billy buying that new guitar. 

I am so sorry to learn of Billy's passing, grieved that I was unable to be there, but rejoice that he is celebrating with our Lord.

I couldn't be more thankful to have had a Poppy like you. Not a day goes by that you're not thought of. Words can't explain how much I miss you. You cared about each and every one of us so much, and always wanted us to be happy. It's weird to think you're gone, because a lot of things aren't right without you here. I know you're having a better time up there because nothing can compare to heaven. I just can't wait until the day comes that I get to see you. I love you so much Poppy

Dear Billy, We will all miss you. As long as each of us breath, there will be a space for you in our hearts. I will miss sparing with you on Facebook on late nights. I sometimes think when I kinda leaned your way, you would switch around and keep me guessing. You grew up right along with Barbara and Ricky and your other cousins, friends and siblings. We never expected to have to wait until heaven to see you again. Tell Kevin and Sam hello. Oh yes, mother and daddy too. I will always love my first little nephew.

Daddy, I miss you so much every day. You taught me so many things that made who I am. You taught me how to be kind and compassionate, and to be sensitive to others' needs. You were generous and loving to everyone. You were an example of Christ in my life, and in the lives of your grandchildren. When I said you loved Jesus, Riley said, “More than anybody I know.” You were also stubborn at times, and you taught me that as well. Even though we didn't always agree, you were usually right, but I argued because I am just like you, and I am so proud of that. I couldn't be more proud of that. Thank you for being the best Father to me, Poppy to my children, Husband to my Mother, and the best Brother, Son, or Uncle that anyone could wish to have. Poppy was everything to me. He never raised his voice to me. I loved how he was loose, let me do awesome things my parents would never let me do. I will never forget the time I left a scratch on the driver door. I was checking the mail. He told me to get close to the mailbox but I accidently got too close and when I pulled the door of the mailbox, I got the mail out and couldn't put the door back up. I tried to drive off and put it up before I got a scratch but I twisted the mailbox and scratched the door. I freaked out and backed up but I shouldn't have backed up because when I did, that's when it scratched it. Even though I scratched his door he never got angry, he never yelled at all. I remember when Poppy played his guitar, I would always listen. Even if I was on the other end of the house I was listening. Poppy, your life was short. Even from an earthly perspective, you were much too young to have your life swept up and away and gone in a gust. 
You were deeply loved, and you will be deeply missed...

I'll miss your calls and your voicemails and your Facebook messages. 
I'll miss you when I use one of the many useful but goofy gadgets you bought for yourself and gave to me.

I will miss you at future family events, like graduations and weddings and Grammys...

You didn't disappear, you just moved on. You were created to worship the one true God, and you have finally completely fulfilled your purpose.

Poppy, he was a great man. He was the nicest guy you could ever meet.
My dad told me this story, Poppy was driving and stopped to help somebody on the side of the road and their spare tire was flat, they didn't have enough money, and he gave some them money. He gets to my house and takes a nap for about 30 minutes, and then he runs out the door calls my dad, and says I was supposed to look at a house 3 hours ago, he got carried away cause he was generous like that, and he was focused on the people. He always had gum with him, and he never ever called it gum he called it chewing gum.  
   One night I spent the night at their house and I was going to spend the night again but I had a really bad headache and it was about 11:00pm at night and honey was too tired to take me home so I asked Poppy, and he said, sure thing sunny boy let me just put on my boots. 
  Poppy was a man that if he started something he would finish it no matter what.
  I miss Poppy so much and I can't wait to see him again. All I wanted is for Poppy to know that I love him, and he does. 
When he was sick I wrote notes telling Poppy how much I love him, and can't wait to go fishing.  When I get to heaven me and Poppy are going to go fishing.  My Poppy if you asked him something he would show you. Once I asked, Poppy how far does a nail gun shoot? and he said, "I don't know let's find out", so he shot it right into a highway. 
   I know Poppy's in a better place. I would do anything to just hug him, and say, " I love you Poppy, and he would say I love you too, Jameson".  I will always miss you, Poppy, I love you, and will always be waiting to see you again Poppy.

Dad, it's hard to find the words to say. I didn't know someone could be missed this way. Not a day goes by that I don't think about you. I miss your laugh, your smile and all the time we spent together. It's a hard thing to say goodbye. But, I know you're in a better place now. Pain free and enjoying every day. Until we meet again. Love you Dad.

Billy Gay Heddin. Man he was a character. 90 miles an hour all the time. He had more energy then I ever will. He was always go-go-go. Clumsy, goofy, the way he walked, to the words he said, from you, dingbat or the way he said bye. He had 9 lives. From the time cutting his finger with a table saw, to climbing a tower while in bad health, or how fast he drove his truck. 
That was just Poppy. That's just how he was. 
There's No other like him...
He was a huge part of my life. We were extremely close. He wasn't just a grandpa, he was a friend and we had a very special relationship. He was my Poppy. 
I couldn't ask for a better Poppy, a better role model in my life, there is none. All he ever did was think of others. He was a giver. Absolutely the most unselfish man I have ever known. He'd give the shirt off of his back to you or the only 10$'s he had and he would just keep going. He wouldn't worry about it, he'd put it in Gods hands. That's how he lived his life. With faith. No matter the circumstances, he'd rely on Jesus Christ. I've never met a man besides my Poppy that no matter what happened or how bad it was he never questioned God, never asked why? Why me? He knew that God had a plan for himself and he trusted in God and lived in discipline. 
I can't tell you all the things he taught me but I can tell you, he taught me how to love and the absolute most important one was how to live with faith. That He taught me real well. 
I can't thank that man enough. 
Saturday, I got a call from my Mom, around 4, and she said my Poppy isn't doing good. So I leave work to get to his house and he's in a hospital bed. So many family were there. The doctor said that he's asleep, but he can hear you. So I'm just sitting beside him, I couldn't say a word because I knew I would start crying an couldn't get it out. So, I just sat by him watching his breaths just waiting for the last one. So, I hug my Honey, and whisper to my Poppy, that I love him, and I leave to go home. I get home and just sit in my truck just crying thinking about him and my Poppy. I finally go inside and go to sleep. 
At 6:21 a.m. I get a call from my Honey's house and it's my Dad, he says that Poppy just passed away. So I get there and it really hasn't hit me yet that he's gone. I go back home to do some homework about noon on Sunday, October 12, 2014 and it hits me when I realize that I'll never see him pull into my drive way in his truck, or I'll never see him walking up to my front door ever again. I'll never hear him say, hey sonny boy, or hey, Jordan Ryver. 
I go to my voicemail and I listen to the ones he left on my phone. I hear his voice and I'm just listening to them over and over again.. He says he loves me and he's laughing and he talks about how I missed his phone call and he missed mine, so we are both good at missing phone calls. I sit there crying, knowing that's all I'm ever gonna hear of his voice.
I tell you, he loves church and Sunday morning, October 12, 2014 around 6:20 a.m. he left this world to go to Heaven, he left for the early church service. He loved to play the guitar, and I pray that God has one in heaven for him.

I was so very grateful God gave me the time to talk to my big brother and tell him how he helped me become the person he knew I could be,  I love you Billy

 Our precious son, we  miss you so much.  Miss you coming down to watch the  football games and the westerns with Daddy. Miss your sweet smile,  Miss hearing you sing at church. Miss your humor, and, most of all miss your wonderful hugs, and your beautiful  voice,saying, I love you.......You, our  firstborn child, were a delight to everyone who knew you.

I was so sorry to read about the passing of Billy.  Like all of the Heddins, he hada great since of humor and was very kind. Billy was a very talented carpenter and extremely honest.  I offer my sincerest condolences to the Heddins family.                  Bryan C. Young
