Dan was a Christian man raised in the Assembly of God. He grew up in Electra, Texas and graduated from BurkBurnett High School in 1967. In September of that year, he married the love of his life, Dorothy Atherton.
Their love is a funny story. Dan had returned home to visit and his mother would not let his sister, Brenda, leave the house for a date. So, Brenda turned it into a double date with her coworker, Dorothy. It was through his sister's persistence that Dorothy and Dan continued dating and got married.
He built the second story of their house, added an extra room, and a gazebo with benches and a koi pond for his loving wife. Wood work, electric, and all.
If you know Dan, you know about his love for learning new trades, wood working, building, red roses, and Western movies. But, above all else, he loved and cherished his grandchildren.
Dan is survived by: his wife, Dorothy "Atherton" McKinney; Daughter, Tamara Moyer; Grandchildren, Kaya LeLeaux and Kason Moyers; Sister, Brenda Martin; Nephews, Chad Martin and Wade McKinney; and Niece, Melissa Evers.
He is preceded in death by: his parents, Oleene "Toots" and Viva McKinney; and Brother, Richard McKinney.
