

Helen Dowdy Tharp, age 97, passed away peacefully at home in Ben Wheeler, TX on Thursday, June 24, 2021. She was born in Dallas, TX on January 20, 1924 to parents Leonard Jennings Dowdy and Stella Marie Weber. Throughout her life she resided in Sunnyvale, Garland and Rowlett until her relocation to Ben Wheeler, TX in 2005. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, V.C. Tharp; great-grandson, Rowdy Robles; and brother, John Dowdy.
Helen was a devoted mother and is survived by her children, Bill and wife Dyanne Welk of McKinney, TX; Sue Hicks of Ben Wheeler, TX; Dan & wife Charlotte Tharp of Ben Wheeler, TX; and Kathy Tharp of Ben Wheeler, TX. In addition to her children, she was blessed with nine grandchildren, twenty-six great grandchildren and nine great-great grandchildren who all affectionally called her “Nanny."
Living life to the fullest for many of her 97 years, she was a skilled seamstress, avid reader, and had a penchant for growing beautiful plants! Family members were often amused at her love of chocolate candy and unwillingness to share if it was given to her for a special occasion in her later years! She had a quick wit and an infectious smile that was welcoming to those she knew and loved.
Throughout her entire life, she held an unwavering faith in God, which she shared with those who surrounded her. A dedicated Christian, she lived her life in anticipation of the day when she would be welcomed into heaven and rejoined with her loved ones. She was a member of First Assembly of God, Mesquite and attended the Heritage Trail Cowboy Church of Ben Wheeler. She lived a life of faithfulness to loving God and her family.
A family visitation is scheduled for Saturday, June 26th from 6:00 PM-8:00 PM at Eubank Funeral Home, 27532 State Hwy 64, Canton, TX 75103 with a graveside memorial to be held on Sunday, June 27th at 2:00 PM at Pleasant Ridge Cemetery, 4600 N Belt Line Rd, Sunnyvale, TX 75182.
Grandsons and Great-Grandsons Kevin Stanbery, Geoffrey Hicks, Barret Stanbery, Stoney Robles, Jeff Hudnall, Mason Hudnall, Ryder Stanbery, Brennan Hoffman and Hunter Hoffman will serve as honorary pallbearers.
