

Services for James Doyle Dove, 90, of the Colfax community will be held on Monday, August 14, 2017, at 10 a.m. at Eubank Funeral Home Chapel in Canton. Rev. John Zeigler will officiate the service. Burial will follow at Haven of Memories, Canton.
Mr.Dove passed away Aug. 10 at his home.
Mr. Dove was born June 9, 1927, near Abilene to Karl D. and Nancy Melissa Stewart Dove. After graduating from Van High School, he moved to Dallas and worked at North American Aviation. When he turned 18, Mr. Dove joined the Navy. He served stateside until the end of World War II.
Following the war, Mr. Dove returned to Van Zandt County where he lived the rest of his life. Initially he joined his father in the construction business. Eventually he and his brother owned a construction company and built houses through the East Texas area until his retirement in the early 1980s. Mr. Dove was also a rancher who raised beef cattle, both Hereford and Pinzgauer, for many years.
Mr. Dove was involved in his community. A life-long Presbyterian, he was both an elder and a Sunday school teacher. He was a long-time member of the Van Independent School District School Board. He was active in the Van Zandt County Farm Bureau and was named Canton Chamber of Commerce Agriculturist of the Year in 2014. Mr. Dove enjoyed hunting, reading, and woodworking. His great pleasure, however, came from working on his farm.
On Dec. 20, 1951, he married Marjorie Ray of Canton. He is survived by her and their children and grandchildren. The children include Kathy and Steve Bufkin of Carrollton, Donna Bell of Lewisville, Marsha and Bill Hasson of Coppell, and James and Mary Lou Dove of Colleyville. Grandchildren include Chase and Drew Hasson, Emily Bufkin, Brett Bell, and Ashley Dove and Christina Dove.
Mr.Dove is preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Joe Dove and K. D. Dove; and two sisters, Ernestine Pippin and LaRue Brown.
Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Sunday at Eubank Funeral Home.
