Katherine Odom Nelson

Funeral services for Katherine Odom Nelson, age 84, of Garland, TX will be held at 11am Monday, July 18, 2022, at Eubank Funeral Home in Canton, TX, with Bro. Gary Bingham officiating. Interment will be in Colfax Cemetery following the service.

Katherine went home to the Lord on July 11, 2022, surrounded by the loving arms of her family. She was born in Durant, OK on September 25, 1937, to Grady Winston Odom and Pauline Stonebarger Odom. Katherine had a long life full of many worthwhile and fulfilling activities. She was Baptist by faith and enjoyed worshiping every Sunday. Katherine had many friends and family members that she adored spending time with. She loved to laugh and tell stories with those she held dear and opening her home to the many beloved pets that she adopted and spoiled silly throughout her life.

As a fiercely independent woman, Katherine always filled her home with photos of family and items that brought her joy — she was a renowned putterer and collector of interesting jewelry, clothing, or decor. She loved watching old movies and TV shows, and traveled the world by studying maps and reading books on travel. Studying other places, people, and cultures was her way of exploring the world from the space she felt most comfortable.

Katherine is preceded in death by her parents, Grady Winston Odom and Pauline Stonebarger Odom; her sister, Barbara Anne Farmer; and her brother, Johnny Odom.

Katherine is survived by her sons: Todd and Kelly Shockley of Rowlett, and Steve and Cindy Shockley of Dallas; six grandchildren: Julia Shockley, Jena and Nolan Blue, Jaci and Phillip Atkins, Jake and Cheyenne Shockley, Chelsey Shockley and Travis Stewart, and Tyler and Miranda Shockley; and seven great-grandchildren: Bristol, Archer, Bridget, Ben, Willow, Porter and Tripp.

Visitation with the family will be held one hour prior to service at Eubank Funeral Home.
