Services for Lester N. Johnson, 68, of Athens, will be held 10 am Tuesday, March 7, 2023, at Eubank Funeral Home in Canton with Pastor Darren Miller officiating. Interment will be in Haven of Memories.
Mr. Johnson passed away March 1, 2023 at his home surrounded by loved ones. He was born June 11, 1954 in Tyler to Clarence Howard and Joy B. Wright Johnson.
Lester was a Christian by faith. He proudly served in the US Navy before beginning his career as a truck driver. After retiring as a truck driver, Lester enjoyed woodwork, building things, and remodeling. He was always working on the house and building things for Nina. He also enjoyed being outdoors and mowing his yard. Lester loved his family. He was especially fond of his son, step-son and his grandchildren. He would do anything for his family. Lester had a knack for talking. He would strike up random conversations with people everywhere he went. Lester was also a big jokester. He was always telling silly jokes and "dad jokes". Even though he was very ill, Lester continued to tell jokes all the way until the end.
Mr. Johnson is preceded in death by his wife, Nina Smith Morton Johnson; granddaughter, Kristen Phillips; and his parents.
Lester is survived by his son, Joshua and Amber Johnson of Brownsboro; step-son, James Morton of Athens; three grandchildren: Alexis Johnson, Terra Lynn Johnson, and Dominic Hayes; three brothers: James Johnson, Thomas Johnson and Howard Johnson; two sisters: Margaret Mendoza and Maria Standridge; "brother/friend," Byron Eaton; and many nieces and nephews.
Family will receive friends 6-8 pm Monday, March 6, 2023, at the funeral home.
"And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm, and steadfast."
