
Services for Max Edward Cox, 72, of Canton, Texas, are scheduled for 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 30, 2014, at Eubank Funeral Chapel in Canton, with burial to follow in Haven of Memories. He passed away on Saturday, December 27, 2014, in Tyler, after a brief illness.
Max was born July 18, 1942, in Grand Saline, Texas, to Winston Edward and Mae Ruth Smith Cox. He grew up in West Texas and Grand Saline and attended Grand Saline High School. He played semi-professional baseball for the Grand Sale Salt Miners. On May 25, 1963, he married Jane Groves and they lived in Canton until his death. He worked for the highway department and then took a job with his father-in-law, Lloyd Groves, in the fertilizer business, where he worked for over 30 years. Max was a member of the Van Zandt Country Club, and he spent many years playing golf and later enjoyed spending time with friends in the clubhouse, discussing his favorite team, the Aggies, and his least favorite team, the Cowboys.
Max was extremely proud of his children and grandchildren and was always bragging to everyone about their accomplishments. He was especially proud of the fact that he and Jane were married 51 years. He was loved and will be missed.
Survivors include his wife, Jane; daughters, Tanya and Jeff Durham of Canton and Tiffany and Donny Henson of Fruitvale; son, Timothy (Tim) Cox; grandchildren, Taylor, Jarod, Jacob and Jaxon Durham, Brian Massey, and Brooklynn, Amber and Alex Henson. He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant sister.
Pallbearers are John Turner, Billy Jack Peace, Hack Willeford, Bryan Yarbrough, Ed Gatlin and Davis Foster.
Visitation will be Monday from 6 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
