Nina Gail "Nini" Smith-Morton Johnson

Services for Nina Gail "Nini" Smith Morton Johnson, 61, of Athens, formerly of Canton, will be 2 pm Wednesday, July 20, 2022, at Eubank Funeral Home in Canton with Bro. Dan Tarno officiating. Interment will be in Haven of Memories.

Mrs. Johnson passed away at her home on July 14, 2022. She was born August 5, 1960 in Athens to Mason Kirby Smith and Dorothy Mae Atherton Smith.

Nina was a Baptist by faith. She was raised in Canton and graduated from Canton High School in 1978.

From her first marriage, she had her only son, "Jamie," in 1979. Through much of her adult life, she lived in Canton raising her son and caring for her family.

While making a living for her son, Nina took the required schooling to become a Medication Assistant. She used her education to mainly take care of the elderly and special needs individuals. Later, she became an Emergency Medical Technician.

Nina was a best friend to her husband and son. Her family loved her, dearly. To her nieces and Byron E. Eaton, she was known as "Nini." She enjoyed crafts of all kinds, especially coloring and crocheting. She loved her dogs and horses. Nina was very generous, caring and loving. She loved cooking and always made sure others were fed before she ate.

Mrs. Johnson is preceded in death by her parents, Mason and Dorothy Smith; sister, Mickie Lynn Robertson; and granddaughter, Kristen Phillips.

Nina is survived by her husband, Lester Johnson of Athens; son, James "Jamie" Kirby Ray Morton of Athens; adopted brother/friend, Byron E. Eaton; step-son, Joshua Don Johnson of Brownsboro; five grandchildren: Alexis Johnson; Terra Lynn Johnson, Dominique Phillips, Cody Sellers and Lana Sellers; nieces and other relatives.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.
