

A memorial mass for Oneida Joan Roy Hashem, 89, of Canton, will be held 11 am Monday, November 4, 2024, at St. Therese Catholic Church with Father Jesudoss Thomas officiating. A Rosary will be held at 10:30 am at the church.
Joan passed away October 23, 2024 in Tyler. She was born June 9, 1935 in Dallas to Robert Sylvester and Oneida Mary Roy.
Joan grew up in Dallas. She attended St. Edwards and Ursuline Academy in Dallas. She was a receptionist in the medical profession for many years. Joan moved to Canton to be closer to her family in 2018. She loved spending time with her family and traveling. Joan was very active in her church in McKinney for many years. After moving to Canton, she was a member of St. Therese Catholic Church where she was also active in the Lady's Guild.
Mrs. Hashem is preceded in death by her husband, Wail Hashem; parents, Robert and Oneida Mary Roy; and her two brothers: Robert S. Roy, Jr. and wife, Ann Lee, and David Roy and wife, Liz.
Joan is survived by her daughter and husband, Coleen and Michael Zwick of Canton; son and wife, Hani and Debbie Hashem of Monticello, Arkansas; and six grandchildren: Brandon and Becky Zwick, Ryan and Lacey Zwick, Aaron and Tori Zwick, Kevin and Ashley Zwick, Katlyn and Haley Hashem, and Jordan and Morgan Hashem. Joan was affectionately known as "GG" to her nine great-grandchildren: Peyton, Nathan, Hagen, Kason, Jaxon, Colesyn, Kingston, Baylee and Lane; sister, Jane Gamon; brother and his wife, Tony and Honey Roy; and numerous nieces and nephews.
