Ross Campbell Maris Jr. passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on July 23, 2025. He was born on February 12, 1947, in Dallas, Texas to Ross Campbell Maris, Sr. and Marjorie Clarie Wall Maris.
There will be a memorial service to celebrate his life at a later date.
Ross grew up in Dallas in the Casa Linda area. He graduated from Bryan Adams High School and received his bachelor’s degree from North Texas State University, graduating with honors. Ross was a dedicated fireman for the city of Dallas for 40 years. He served on the Canton City Council for two terms. Ross cared about people and was always looking out for his fellow man.
Ross enjoyed motorcycles in his early years. He built a wonderful life with his beloved wife, Mary. He enjoyed working in the yard and spending time with his family. Ross was a friend and mentor to his grandchildren.
Ross is preceded in death by his parents, Ross Sr. and Marjorie Maris; daughter, Michelle Jones; brothers: Robert Frank Maris and Edward Alan Maris.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Mary Maris; son, Stephen Ross Maris; son, Mark Alan Patterson; grandchildren: Kellan Ross Maris, Lacey Danielle Jones and James Jones; great-grandchild, Gracelynn Hope Jones; brother, Thomas W. Maris; a multitude of other family and friends.
