January 14, 2023, at Eubank Funeral Home in Canton Texas.
Travis passed away on January 3, 2023 in Frisco, Texas. He was born in Emory, Texas on September 24, 1940, to Clayton Powell and Winnie (Duke) Hass. Travis grew up in a very loving environment and could always be found with a smile on his face. Upon graduating Rains High School, Travis joined the U.S. Army and served the 87th Ordnance Battalion at Command Headquarters as their Public Information Officer in Germany from 1959-1963.
After the military, Travis joined The City of Mesquite and began a 32 year law enforcement career. He began as a patrolman in November of 1963 and embraced every opportunity for promotion until obtaining the position of Chief in the Fall of 1988. During that time, he fostered several programs alongside the Mesquite Independent School District in order to encourage policing with a community feel. Travis was involved in the Circle 10 Council of the Boys Scouts of America in Mesquite. Additionally, he was a “championship” coach for several of his son, Brian’s, sports teams.
Due to his career in law enforcement, Travis was forced to live in the “big city” but his heart was always on the farm. The one activity Travis loved the most was working with his John Deere tractor. He loved to work on it, ride on it, and would schedule his vacation days to mow. To Travis, riding a John Deere tractor in the Texas heat was better than a day at the beach.
Travis is survived by his family: son, Brian T. Hass and wife, Trisha of Frisco; grandchildren: Preston T. Hass, Kali VanBuskirk, Chase VanBuskirk; brother, Richard Hass; sisters: Mary Golden, Judy Pruden; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
He is preceded in death by his beloved parents, Clayton and Winnie Hass; brother, Alfred Hass; and sister, LaDois Bean.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.eubankfh.com for the Hass family.
