Victoria Meeks was born on August 25, 1946 to Anna Glodek and James Meeks in Shamokin, PA. She was a fraternal twin. She had older brother, James, then her and her twin brother Brendan and her youngest brother Danny. Looking for a new beginning for the young family, they moved to Texas in 1957 and never left.
Once married she moved her two boys, Jimmy and Arthur and soon to be born daughter, Vicki, from the Garland area to Canton in 1981. She had her slice of heaven with almost 18 acres and a pond and built their home right in the middle of it. This was exactly what her family needed with many farm animals throughout the years, there was always something to do on the property.
She began working for the United States Postal Service as a clerk in the late 1960s and transferred to Canton as a mail carrier where she worked for 30+ years and eventually retired in 2007. To stay busy she delivered Meals on Wheels for 10 years and when her grandchildren, Chase and Madi would come to visit during the summer and school breaks, they would help and they really enjoyed it.
Her grandchildren always had fun with their Grana, with learning to fish since they were in diapers, Chase getting up at dawn to see how many fish he could catch, to Madi and her taking the morning walks around the property and just talking, to hopping on the riding lawn mower as soon as they weighed enough to start it up or just picking up fallen tree limbs. They were never bored at her house. One summer they spent many hours making a little putting green where they all fine-tuned their putting skills to Madi playing the cooking show “Chopped” for Grana with mud pies, dead minnows and grass and thinking up recipe names, to cooling off in the blow up pool under the big shade tree in the backyard. They were always outside having fun but after a full day, it was bath time, cooking dinner and playing rounds and rounds of checkers where she didn’t let them win but in time they won more times than she did. After kids were in bed, she and Arthur, did their ritual back porch time. They spent many hours on the back porch just catching up. Had many cookouts when her brother came to town, with her son, daughter- in-law, grandkids, nephews and friends, with the last one in early January. These were the best times.
When her grandkids weren’t with her, she would spend time watching cooking shows, cooking (she had a love of cooking and gardening which her and Arthur shared. She actually passed it down to her granddaughter, Madi), gardening, some crafting and long conversations with her family and friends. She loved her family deeply and she showed it.
List of survivors: sons, Jimmy, Arthur, grandchildren, Jimmy Jr., Tabitha, Chase and Madi. Her brother Danny, nephews Dee, Danny, Toby, Patrick and Melissa. Her dear friend of 20+ years, James Rhodes.
She is preceded in death by her parents, brothers, James and Brendan, and daughter Vicki. She was raised in the Catholic faith.
